Jane Goodall: The inspirational true story of one woman who moved the world

Ramon Thomas meets Jane Goodall at TEDGlobal in Tanzania, 2007In 2007 I was fortunate to meet Jane Goodall at the TEDGlobal Conference in Arusha, Tanzania. So seeing this premier information I immediately shared it with friends. Free fundraising premier for South Africa

By advancing our awareness of – and fighting for the preservation of chimpanzees, this remarkable woman has given humans a greater understanding – not only of primates, but of ourselves.

The Jane Goodall Institute of South Africa and Ster-Kinekor Theatres will be hosting a premiere of the uplifting documentary on Dr Jane Jane Goodall, “Jane’s Journey,” on February 8 2011 at Cinema Nouveau Rosebank.

Tickets to the premiere are free although guests will be required to make a donation of any value to The Jane Goodall Institute on entry to the premiere. Guests also have the opportunity participate in an auction of JGI rescue photo sets and memorabilia. Bookings for the premiere can be made through TicketLine on 082 16789 and are on a first come first served basis.

It was more than 20 years ago, that Dr. Jane Goodall, now 75, decided to give up her career as a primatologist, as well as her private life, in order to devote all her energy to saving our endangered planet.

Joburg Tweet-Up Name Tags and Event Tweets

Received this email from the eminent Ryan A. Gibson, organiser of Joburg Tweet-ups

This is our second tweet-up (#JHBtweetup) and it is looking great for attendance. I want to welcome the new members as you have helped this group double in size.

Please send your twitter name to me so that I can prepare your name tags for the event. You can email it to ryan@publishknowledge.com or DM me @ryanagibson.

Also, for the sake of helping market the event I would appreciate a tweet either letting people know about the tweet-up which people can register or letting people know you are going. If your friends know your going, then you might have more friends go as well. Its nice to see familiar faces, and if you invited them… they come there to meet you. So its a nice thing to remember to do, just let your followers know your coming. If you registered No for the event and can’t make it, a tweet would still be appreciated. Hopefully you can manage to find a way out of that other party… this one will be better :)

Sincerely,

@RyanAGibson

It is a tweet-up, I will ask MLM people to leave…if you prospect. If I hear one independently wealthy working towards being a millionaire… Kidding, but be respectful if you are. Thanks. It is for twitter users… not MLM.

Internet cafe business 2010 workshops schedule

Ramon Thomas teaching Internet Cafe workshops in JohannesburgThis announcement is two years overdue. So I apologise to my loyal readers who have persisted in asking me about past Internet Cafe workshops. This is what you have been waiting for!

NETucation is South Africa’s leading experts on the Internet Cafe industry, and we are the only organisation to conduct training on how to set-up the Internet Cafe from scratch. These workshops are conducted only twice per annum because it is a very specialised course an curriculim we follow that is updated on annual basis to take all Internet and broadband trends into consideration.

Cybercafe workshops are design to help entrepreneurs with no knowledge of the Internet or small business enter this sector of the Internet industry.

We are proud to announce the 2010 workshop schedule in association with:

Yusuf Mahomedy regularly writes for The Star Workplace and HR Future on employment and jobs. He will teach all the basics of moving from employment to self-employed and running a business that employs people. He also co-presented the previous workshop with us in 2008. And we have also recruited Thuto Moshile, the owner of the largest network of Internet Cafes in the Vaal Triangle. While we focus on the Internet business strategies, computer hardware, networking equipment and software for time management, billing and point of sale solutions.

There will be an interactive Q&A section for all delegates irrespective of your background, skills or experience in this industry. So feel free to post comments below with all your questions before hand and we will answer them in detail. Also bring along any documentation like business plans or application forms for government funding.

What is this training worth to you? This workshops covers the following and more:

  • Small business basics
  • Bookkeeping, Tax, UIF, hiring employees
  • Government funding vs loans
  • Internet Cafe location planning
  • Computer Hardware renting or buying, technical support, becoming a reseller
  • Internet Cafe software, Point of Sales (POS), CRM sales software to track clients
  • Direct marketing strategies with flyer’s, SMS, etc
  • Staff training
  • Billing & Time management strategies

  • Wireless hotspots
  • Additional revenue streams

You save hundreds of hours of research because we have done that already for you. You receive my recommendations on all hardware and other equipment from preferred suppliers; and what we go into detail on what Internet Service Providers to use because we have evaluated the options to gain the best price/performance ratios. Translated this could save you tends of thousands of Rand, which can be better spent on your own training and marketing. You can get going much quicker after this workshop, and you will have more confidence in the success of your new small business venture. We are here to help you have more freedom, more flexibility, more cash flow and create jobs while uplifting your communities, increasing Internet literacy in your region, and giving the people cheaper, faster and quicker access to the world through the Web, email, VOIP and online social networking.

Addiction Action Campaign – People Before Profit Protest March

Warren Whitfield Addiction Action Campaign protest march Sandton SABMillerThis is may be the most important march we’ve had in South Africa since 1913 when Gandhi organized to protest the restrictions that had been imposed on the Indian population of South Africa — the first massive civil disobedience campaign.

I am bringing into the AAC aspects of online addiction that includes Internet pornography, online gambling, social networking aka Facebook, MXit, cellphone addictions and its results. After interviews with Dr Anwar Jeewa on Channel Islam and over 200 talks at schools across South Africa, I know its real. Dr Helgo Schomer @ UCT and Dr Andrew Thatcher @ WITS will be able to confirm this.

Anyway please see the press release for Friday’s protest action. I will be there, along with Warren Whitfield, the Chairman of the Addiction Action Campaign to answer any and all questions from the press with a live press conference immediately after the march and handover of the memorandums to SABMiller & their cadre ;-)

Social Media Success Stories Needed for next PE 27Dinner

Apologies for the inconvenience with the 27Dinner being postponed from September to October. Everything has been confirmed and we’re going ahead full steam with regular 27Dinner events in Nelson Mandela Bay. We should do at least 4 during 2010, one every 3 months.

This month we’re hosting a very special 27Dinner event in Port Elizabeth. As usual it’ll take place at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club, thanks for Alan Stratton from MyPE. The focus this month is discovering social media success stories from Nelson Mandela Bay. So if you have a story to share, a victory to celebrate from the Web 2.0 revolution, join us. Yusuf Moses, my awesome PA, will handle the MC duties to allow me a 10 minute speaking slot, discussing the growth of the 27Dinner movement, and mutual-aid between African bloggers. For those reading this for the first time, the 27Dinner events take place all across South Africa in major cities like Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth and soon Bloemfontein.

The purpose is to expose the masses to social media, introduce new concepts from Web 2.0 into the collective consciousness of Web users, Internet experts, graphic designers, PR executives, and all forms of decision makers from small to large enterprises. And we aim to distil the value of social media for everyone who’s serious about getting more from the online world. Past events in PE 27Dinners have covered topics as diverse as drug counselling using MXit, innovative social networking platforms like ZoopedUp and Blueworld, and other niche areas.

These events are FREE aka gratis, and you simply have to add you name on the 27Dinner website after completing a simply sign-up procedure. You can volunteer to sponsor these events with wine, desert, gadgets like cool new cellphones or gaming consoles – hint, hint I want a Nintendo WII or Microsoft Xbox, forget about Sony Playstations. Otherwise simply come along for good food and conversation.

We’re still looking for more speakers on the above mentioned topic. So if you know anyone who can elucidate our minds with a success story from the Port Elizabeth-East London-Uitenhage areas, feel free to email me their contact information and I’ll gladly make it happen.
